I realise that I need to get on and try it for myself and that’s exactly what I’ll do for a month. It also has worse lens distortion correction than DxO, and often crops the corrected raw image unnecessarily. You are better off to go back to Lightroom, that has improved so much in the last few years that it wipes the floor with the competition (except for the noise reduction it seems, not that I ever had any problems with that - but even that may be remedied sooner than later because some people are already beta testing their own AI driven noise reduction). It can't quite shake the heritage of being a Phase One product. I’m just curious if anyone has made the jump to C1 and stayed there or gone back? What were your experiences jumping ship so to speak?Ĭ1 in my opinion is a one trick pony - for portrait photographers. When I say struggle, I can get the result I want most of the time, but it seems to take me ages to get there. But I still struggle with tone settings particularly on wildlife. I love PL6 especially the Prime denoising. And prior to that was using Lightroom for many years.
#Dxo photolab vs capture one trial#
I am going to trial capture one this weekend. The Inpainting tool isn't perfect but 95% of the time I can gain image size and a more preferable crop after Inpainting. after infill I usually gain some usable image size which then permits a more preferable larger image crop. then from C1 I will round trip to AFFINITY PHOTO and it has a marvelous Inpainting tool which is used to infill the blank triangular edge shapes.
#Dxo photolab vs capture one full#
I process the corrected image which often results in blank/dead space triangular shaped edges to the full file back to C1. I should also mention that after doing perspective corrections in VP I don't use the crop function there.

I can also do perspective corrections in PL6 after opening my raw file there with the tool there but the PL6 tool is not as extensive and comprehensive as the VP App so I may do minor edits in PL6 or if deeper more extensive editing required I will skip in PL6 and roundtrip to VP via C1.Ĭ1 also has a keystone correction tool which can also do minor perspective editing. after processing in VP save the file back to original location and go back to C1 and the VP processed file will be in your thumb nails next to the image you just opened. while in C1 open the file in VP via Edit With. I can use VP as a C1 plug in using the Edit With function. One question: Are you able to use Viewpoint as a plug-in to C1? Or do you mean you do also the perspective corrections in PL6 (with VP) and then export as a DNG for further editing in C1? Same here PL6 and Viewpoint combined with an even older version of C1 (version 12).

and I can round trip from C1 to VP so again easy to work with in conjunction with C1.īoth great programs and I enjoy the positives for me in each. IMHO it's a must have App if you do any amount of wide angle shooting. I also like very much DxO VP and use it regularly for wide angle distortion and perspective. 20 does what I need for now and I hope I don't have to go to subscription! I much prefer the editing controls and masking in C1 over PL but that may be because I haven’t really put the time in to learn the PL systems but I do prefer the DxO NR results.Ĭ1 is expensive and that is the reason I haven’t upgraded yearly or to the latest 23 version. then return to C1 for any final touches and save the final product as a JPEG after using lossless DNGs or TIFFS along the way. I also like the ability to roundtrip from C1 to other apps such as TOPAZ AUTO AI or AFFINITY for further custom editing, infill work and/or cropping. then save as a DNG file and then open with C1 for any finishing editing for exposure and masking. do the basic corrections there including NR, lens correction, distortion, perspective.
